Founders, Funders and Friends
About this event
Every Ecosystem’s Unicorns and profit-making companies are increasingly funded from within. Founders, Funders & Friends brings investors, founders and operators into one room for an honest conversation about how that money actually moves: where local investor bases are forming, how diaspora capital is being deployed and what it takes to get funded without contorting your business into a Silicon Valley story. This edition's topic is: Local Capital, Global Standards: Building for African Markets Without Apologizing for Them and the conversation is built around this question: How do we build businesses that are deeply rooted in local realities while creating companies capable of meeting and setting global standards? Join Fiona Kiruja Sean Karanja Christine Namara and Steve Mwangangi as they unpack: • What investors are really looking for before they write a check • How local context shapes investment decisions, for better or worse • What actually makes an African company “truly investable” • And the bigger question underneath it all: should founders be adapting their businesses to meet global expectations or challenging those expectations altogether? This all-star panel will name numbers, share insights and critiques from the people writing cheques and keep it all the way honest in a room built for the conversations that don't happen on stage. Date: Wednesday 9th of September 2026 Venue: Social House, Nairobi Time: 6pm-9pm • Seats are limited, entry by confirmed booking only.
